Glen James Ellis

The last week has been an interesting one. I got an email from my dad one week ago saying that he would be flying to Arizona to see his dad before he died. I told him I would be driving so we went together after lunch on Thursday. We had a 9 hour drive to Flagstaff where we got into a motel then continued to Queen Creek, Arizona Friday morning. We arrived mid-morning at the Ellis home and spoke with Charlotte and Steve the nurse. They said we could see Grandpa as soon as we donned masks so we wouldn't get him sick. Apparently his white blood cells were almost non-existent so we didn't want to unnecessarily expose him to illness.

Dad told Grandpa about Sara's obstinence to the doctors' recommendations to have a C-section in the Phillipine's. Grandpa responded, "that sounds like Sara." It was good to see him with his wits about him. Over the next two days his health declined rapidly. He wanted to go home and was ready to go home. Despite his readiness he waited to say goodbye to Moana and Reid. He is ready to be with Grandma again. He has lived a great life and influenced many people in a positive way. I am not sad for him but I will miss him greatly.

Glen James Ellis was born August 14, 1930 and passed away November 1, 2010.

Pictures of Awesome Trampoline

So you dig a hole with your shovel, give up, whine to your brother-in-law for about a year about how hard it is and how you don't have any time to dig a stupid trampoline hole, watch brother-in-law dig hole in a few hours with mini-excavator dump trailer and laser level, screw corrugated sheet metal around the legs of the trampoline frame, drop in the perfect hole, backfill around edges, reattach tramp canvas, add kids = recipe for a killer back yard. (figuratively and literally)

Can Boys Like Pink?

I made some pancakes today at Chomper's request. Upon James's request I added some purple food coloring to the batter. Since we started with a yellowish based batter the purple ended up more of a pink. We then made to strawberry milk (which happened to turn pink). So as events would turn out we had a completely pink meal for 4 boys. We didn't even have Candis there to justify the color. James said it was ok because Gary the Snail on Sponge Bob has pink around his shell.

Does that look like throw up or what?

It tasted great!

Greenline coming to Lehi!?!?!?!!!!

What could put Lehi on the map even bigger than Cabela's or Lehi Trafalga? I have heard rumblings that Greenline Equipment is moving in near the Point of the Mountain. John Deere is a rare commodity here in this part of the county. I am so excited to take my boys up to the new "toy store".

What Happened to Saturday?

Hey I thought I blogged Saturday morning. Friday's there and now it's Sunday night. Well, remember the boys were barfing the last couple of days? Well, I guess when you're hauling barfy blankets to the laundry room and kissing your sick little kids the odds of contracting their illness increases... a bit.
Today as I was driving all over the Uintah Basin I was feeling pretty crappy. About an hour after my last stop I was on the phone with Candis when I had to pull over right away. I feel bad that I didn't include any picture on the last posting so for your enjoyment here is a picture of my roadside vomit.

Before it's Too Late

I almost missed today's blog. I can't fall short on Candis's reciprocal challenge to blog everyday for a week. I'll just take a minute to summarize today's events.
Took down the monstrosity of ivy growth by the garage to keep the bees and hornets down. Took the cuttings to my dad's burn pile. Finished burying the trampoline thanks to Chad and his mini-excavator and his drill and his dump trailer. I'll put in some pictures later. Used my new chain saw for the first time and already dulled the chain after cutting some railroad ties. Had some great pizza. Have been changing barf bowls for James for the last 3 hours. That reminds me I need to move his barfy blankets to the dryer.

Fall Apples

I grabbed a couple apples off our awesome apple tree this morning in the dark on my way to the car.

These pictures are of two sides of the same apple. The first apple wound up in the trash can after I bit into my second worm nest/rot. The rest of the apple was pretty darn good though.

So which is worse, biting into a worm or no worms on a perfect "looking" apple that's been sprayed?

Happy Day in the World of Puppydom

I promise not all my posts are going to have links to KSL but I did want to share a sad story with a happy ending. About a week and a half ago a litter of puppies was stolen from a Spanish Fork home. http://www.ksl.com/index.php?nid=148&sid=12778597

It's always sad to hear of crap like this and I was really rooting, or routing, for the family to recover the lost puppies. Well what do my eyes see on KSL but an update to the story stating that the puppies have all been recovered. Some were found in Salt Lake and the rest clear up in Brigham City.
http://www.ksl.com/?nid=148&sid=12794278
Moral of the story, don't trust those stinkin' puppy snatchers in front of Wal-Mart. They probably stole them. We bought Wallace, a border collie/Australian sheperd mix back when we were newly-weds. I suspected he was stolen when I saw that same guy out there selling a different breed in front of Smith's a couple months later.

But honestly, who wouldn't find it hard to pass up a cute little furball like this?

Sad News in the World of Aquaculture

In response to Candis's response to my Double Dog Dare (or ddd as she has made known to me) I am bound to 7 days of blogging myself. Well let's look at a sad story from Kamas, Utah.
A fish hatchery in Kamas is being closed due to the possibility that perhaps someday it might have the possibility that possibly the fish may contract whirling disease. http://www.ksl.com/?nid=148&sid=12800137

Since I was raised as a fish farmer and pretend to still be one and hope to grow my own fish here on our little homestead one day I am sad for this fish hatchery. A small spot in my heart has died today.

Double Dog Dare

Candis,
I love your blog posts. Sad thing is their frequency has diminished to a trickle. I hereby DOUBLE DOG DARE YOU to post a blog every day for the next 7 days.

p.s. my last post was in July.........2009.
